What are SaaS companies hiring for? Open jobs at the 2025 Forbes Cloud 100 (checked 2026-10-09)
We pulled every open job from the 80 public job boards we read on 2026-10-09 among the 2025 Forbes Cloud 100: 10,249 open roles on 2026-10-09. Engineering is about 33% of them and sales about 28%, so these companies are hiring about five people to sell for every six who build.
The short answer
- Open jobs: 10,249 across 80 boards. The median board lists 78.5 open roles; the smallest 4, the largest 890.
- By function: engineering about 33%, sales about 28%, G&A and operations about 15%, product and design about 6%, customer success and support about 6%, marketing about 6%, data and research about 4%.
- AI and ML in the title: 795 roles, 7.8% of all open jobs. They turn up in sales, product and support titles as well as engineering.
- Remote: 1,896 roles, 18.5%, are marked remote. The other four in five name an office, a hybrid arrangement or just a city.
Two separate programs read the same 80 boards a few minutes apart and agreed on the total, the AI/ML count and the remote count exactly. Their function counts differ on 98 of 10,249 titles (1.0%), so the function shares below are rounded to whole percent.
Open jobs by function
We sorted each job into one function from its title, and used the board’s department only when the title didn’t say. Customer-facing technical roles go to the team they sit in: a solutions engineer or solutions architect counts as sales, a support engineer or technical account manager as customer success. Program managers count as engineering when the title says technical or engineering, as product when it says product, and otherwise as G&A and operations. Analysts in finance, people, risk, policy or operations count as G&A, not data.
| Function | Open jobs (about) | Share of all jobs | Median board’s share |
| Engineering | 3,400 | 33% | 28% |
| Sales (incl. solutions engineers and architects) | 2,900 | 28% | 29% |
| G&A and operations (finance, legal, people, recruiting, IT, ops) | 1,500 | 15% | 12% |
| Product and design | 610 | 6% | 7% |
| Customer success and support | 630 | 6% | 7% |
| Marketing | 610 | 6% | 6% |
| Data and research | 390 | 4% | 2% |
| Other (general managers, strategists, project and specialist roles) | 260 | 2 to 3% | under 1% |
Shares are rounded, so they don’t add up to exactly 100%. The last column is the share at the median company: for each board we took the share of its own jobs in that function, then the middle value across the 80 boards (those medians don’t add up to 100%).
- Sales is as big as engineering at the typical company. At the median board, sales is about 29% of open roles and engineering about 28%. The all-jobs total leans more to engineering because the largest boards are engineering-heavy.
- A few boards carry a lot of the total. The largest single board is 8.7% of all 10,249 jobs, and the five largest together are 35%. The median column shows what a typical company in the list is hiring for.
- Data and research is small but concentrated. Five boards hold 46% of all data and research roles; the median board has about 2% of its roles here.
How many roles mention AI or ML
795 of 10,249 open jobs (7.8%) have AI or ML in the title. At the median board, the share is 6.2%.
Definition: a title counts when it contains one of the words AI, ML, LLM, LLMs or GenAI as a whole word (so “email”, “Mailchimp” or “MLOps” don’t count), or one of the phrases “machine learning”, “artificial intelligence” or “deep learning”, in any letter case. Both of our programs applied this rule independently and matched the same 795 titles.
This counts roles that name AI in the title, such as “Software Engineer, AI Infrastructure”, “Product Manager, AI” or “Account Executive (AI Solutions)”. Many more jobs work on AI products without saying so in the title, so read 7.8% as a floor on AI work and a fair measure of roles built around it.
How many roles are remote
1,896 of 10,249 open jobs (18.5%) are marked remote.
Definition: a job counts as remote when the board’s own remote field says so (Ashby’s workplace type, Workday’s remote type, Rippling’s workplace type and, on 2026-10-09 only, SmartRecruiters’ remote flag; see below), or when its location contains the word “Remote” (Greenhouse boards have no remote field, so there it’s the location text only). For Ashby we read the job’s main location, so a role that lists Remote only as an extra location isn’t counted. Both programs found the same 1,896.
This is a lower bound: a role that is open to remote candidates but lists only a city isn’t counted.
How we checked
- Sample: the companies on the Forbes Cloud 100, 2025 edition, whose job board we found in our ATS study and can read through the vendor’s public job-board API: 80 boards (42 Greenhouse, 31 Ashby, 5 Workday, 1 SmartRecruiters, 1 Rippling), the set the study had confirmed on 2026-10-09. The study has since added five boards we can read and two more companies on Comeet. A correction on 2026-10-10 added two Greenhouse boards, two Ashby boards and the two Comeet companies, and one on 2026-10-12 added Checkout.com’s Ashby board. None of them is in these numbers. Forbes chose the companies; the job counts are ours, and Forbes has no part in them.
- Method 1: the board readers inside our Company Jobs Actor fetched every open job on each board, and a title classifier sorted them by function and flagged AI/ML titles.
- Method 2: separately, a second program in a different language called each vendor’s public API directly, with its own function rules, its own AI/ML word match and its own remote rule. Both read 10,249 jobs. They agreed on every AI/ML and remote flag; their function labels differed on 98 titles, mostly manager titles for solutions-architect teams (“Manager, Delivery Solutions Architects”) that one program counted as sales and the other as engineering or other. The two programs’ function shares differ by at most half a point.
- Function comes from the title. Titles are short and teams name roles differently, so some jobs will sit in a neighbouring function to the one their company would choose. We read a sample of titles in each function to check the sorting. The usual misses are titles that borrow another team’s word (an account executive selling a tax product lands in G&A), and “Other” holds titles like “General Manager” or “Strategist” that don’t name a function.
- Boards we couldn’t read: 20 of the 100 companies aren’t in these numbers. On 2026-10-09, 15 had no job board we had found and confirmed on a supported system (six of them have since been confirmed, as above), 3 use Comeet and 1 Jobvite (we don’t read either), and 1 Workable board couldn’t be confirmed by a second check.
- No locations by country. Many jobs list several cities in one field, and Workday boards often show only “3 Locations”, so we don’t publish a country or city split.
- A snapshot: boards change by the hour. These numbers are as of 2026-10-09, with both programs run within minutes of each other. Every listed posting counts once, including the few general “talent pool” postings some boards keep open.
- SmartRecruiters, 2026-10-13: one of the 80 boards, Canva’s on SmartRecruiters (126 of the 10,249 jobs), was read on 2026-10-09 from SmartRecruiters’ public jobs API. On 2026-10-13 we found that the API’s robots.txt asks automated tools not to read it, and we stopped reading it: our tools now recognise SmartRecruiters links but don’t read them. The numbers here stay as dated and no total changes. A refresh would leave Canva’s jobs out, as for the Comeet companies.
